Young lads come down from the North of Ghana to Accra to learn a trade and make a great living. Many of them, however, end up at Agbogbloshie, an e-waste dump where old computers, radios, TV’s, cars etc get discarded, and these lads end up sifting through the garbage to burn the electrical wire down to th
e bare components. The copper wire they’ll retrieve will make them approx $1 $USD a day, but a lot more for those whom this is big business. These lads want to be tailors, carpenters or mechanics but most won’t live beyond 24 years old. Recycling is rarely straight forward but this brings a whole new meaning to being discarded. What a waste.
